Sergei Lavrov: Russian authorities not in contact with Snowden

CHOLPON-ATA, Kyrgyzstan, July 13 (Itar-Tass) - Russian authorities are not in contact with Snowden, Sergei Lavrov said.

"We are not in contact with Snowden," the Russian foreign minister said on Saturday.

The issues Snowden discussed with Russian human rights activists at Sheremetyevo airport were widely covered by mass media. "I got acquainted with them as everyone else," he said.

The Russian law specifies certain procedures to grant political asylum. The first step is applying to the Federal Migration Service, he noted.

Former U.S. intelligence service contractor Edward Snowden has not submitted an application to the Federal Migration Service yet for temporary asylum in Russia, FMS official Zalina Kornilova told Itar-Tass.

"We have not received documents from Snowden yet," she said
