US launches WGS-9 military communications satellite

NEW YORK, March 19. /TASS/. The United Launch Alliance (ULA) said it had launched a Delta IV carrier rocket with the ninth Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS-9) military communications satellite for the US Air Force from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida Saturday.

WGS satellites are an important element of a new high-capacity satellite communications system providing enhanced communications capability to troops in the field.

This is the third launch in 2017 and the 118th successful launch since ULA, a consortium by Boeing and Lockheed Martin, was formed in December 2006.
