Russia’s Admiral Vladimirsky ship completes research in Antarctic

The Admiral Vladimirsky ship left northwest Russia’s Kronshtadt for the Antarctic expedition in November 2015 and is expected to return there this April

MOSCOW, February 25. /TASS/. Russian Navy’s ocean research vessel Admiral Vladimirsky has completed its voyage to the Antarctic, the first of its kind in 30 years, and is now en route to Cape Town, South Africa, the defense ministry said on Thursday.

"The ocean research vessel of Russia’s Navy has competed the stage of researching the water areas of the Antarctic and is heading to Cape Town where it will arrive on March 3, 2016," the ministry’s press service said in a statement.

The vessel has successfully performed the task of the main stage of the expedition spending a month in the seas around the Antarctic. "The participants of the expedition, military hydrographers carried out complex researches of three sea areas," the ministry said.

The Admiral Vladimirsky ship left northwest Russia’s Kronshtadt for the Antarctic expedition in November 2015 and is expected to return there this April. The details of all the stages of the unique expedition and the results of researches of the seas will be later made public.
