On November 2, 2000, a Russian Soyuz rocket carrying Russian cosmonauts Yuri Gidzenko and Sergei Krikalyov and NASA astronaut William Shepherd docked at the International Space Station (ISS). Expedition 1 was the first long-duration stay on the ISS. The mission lasted for 136 days, from November 2000 to March 2001. It was the beginning of human habitation in space. Impressive images taken from the ISS - in this photo gallery.
