MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/. Moscow’s oldest street dating back to the 12th century has been discovered during archeological excavations in the capital’s centre, Russian Academy of Sciences’ Archeology Institute said on Wednesday.
"Velikaya street, which presumably appeared in the 12th century, has been found during excavations on the site of the demolished Rossiya hotel," the institute said.
Leonid Belyayev, head of the archeological team, said the street had stretched from the Kremlin to the Moskva river.
The Rossiya hotel was a large, five-star international hotel built in the 1960s in Zaryadye, the historic district of Moscow adjacent to the Kremlin. Its demolition began in 2006.
