NEW YORK, September 28. /TASS/. The Starship spacecraft exploded on splashdown after completing its 14th test flight, the ABC television reported.

The reports quotes SpaceX as saying that the explosion occurred because the spacecraft is not designed to land in cold water. The company said that this outcome should not be treated as a sign of a problem or a mission failure.

Earlier, the company said that all of Starship's primary mission objectives have been fulfilled, except for the originally planned six orbits around the Earth. Among other things, the spacecraft entered full orbit for the first time and successfully deployed 26 Starlink next-generation satellites.

Flight 14 became Starship's first full orbital flight. Its completion marked a new stage in the test program for SpaceX’s fully reusable rocket and space system.
