Starship completes its sixth test flight
The spacecraft spend about an hour in flight before splashing down in the Gulf of Mexico
NEW YORK, November 20. /TASS/. Elon Musk’s company SpaceX has successfully carried out the sixth test launch of its prototype of the Starship spacecraft, according to a live broadcast of the event on the X social network.
The spacecraft spend about an hour in flight before splashing down in the Gulf of Mexico.
This time, the company opted against using its Mechazilla platform, a massive structure designed to grab rockets in midair as they head in for landing.
The goal of the flight was to obtain as much telemetry data as possible.
US President-elect Donald Trump oversaw the launch of the Starship spacecraft jointly with Elon Musk. Prior to the blastoff, the Space X chief informed Trump about technical specifications of his company’s spacecraft.
The launch was carried out from the Starbase launch facility, which lies next to Boca Chica Beach at the southernmost tip of Texas.
According to the developer's plans, the Starship space system will be universal and will be used in different versions for manned flights into Earth's orbit, satellite launches and missions to the Moon and Mars, as well as to more distant celestial bodies. The reusable super-heavy booster and spacecraft are designed to perform a vertical landing on Earth. According to the current project, the total height of the space system is 121 meters (Starship - 50 meters, booster - 71 meters), its diameter is nine meters, and its payload is about 100-150 tons.
