Construction of future manned spacecraft reached its final stage — Roscosmos CEO
The spacecraft’s first flight is planned for 2028, Yury Borisov said
KALUGA, April 15. /TASS/. The construction of a future new generation manned spacecraft (called ‘Federatsiya’ and ‘Oryol’ at different points) is in its final stage, Roscosmos CEO Yury Borisov said.
"It is in the final stage of construction," Borisov said during a lecture in the Tsiolkovsky State space exploration museum in Kaluga.
The spacecraft’s first flight is planned for 2028, he said.
According to the CEO, the spacecraft was initially designed for the lunar program. However, the program was postponed, and the spacecraft was repurposed to deliver crews to the Russian Orbital Station, which will enter construction stage in 2027.
The existing spacecraft project is too big for this purpose, and it is being adapted for orbital flights around the Earth. The spacecraft will be taken into orbit by the Angara-A5M heavy rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
