MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. The first Angara-A5 heavy launch vehicle will blast off from the Vostochny spaceport on April 9, Roscosmos has said.
"The launch of the Angara vehicle with the Orion booster and payload from Vostochny is due on April 9," the corporation said in its weekly news digest.
On Tuesday, the rocket was brought to the launch pad. The upcoming launch will be the first in a series of flight tests of the Amur space rocket system with heavy Angara launch vehicles at Vostochny.
"Angara" is a family of Russia’s launch vehicles ranging from light class to heavy class. The new family uses environmentally friendly propellant components. An Angara rocket was first launched on July 9, 2014 from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. It was a light vehicle. On December 23, 2014, a heavy Angara-A5 left Plesetsk on a test flight.
