Injured tiger cub found on highway in Russia’s Khabarovsk Region
The cub did not have any life-threatening injuries requiring urgent intervention
TASS, November 7. A tiger cub was spotted limping by drivers on the Khabarovsk-Komsomolsk-on-Amur highway, Director of the Amur Tiger Center Sergey Aramilev told TASS.
"A tiger cub was found limping on the highway between Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk-on-Amur. It was taken to Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where it had to be quickly determined whether it had any life-threatening injuries requiring urgent intervention. Fortunately, there were no such injuries. Now the Khabarovsk regional hunting supervisor together with veterinarians will take care of the animal and provide it with food," Aramilev said.
According to him, it is now impossible to find out the mother's whereabouts, as the snow has covered all the tracks near the place where the animal was found. At the same time, it is highly unlikely that the cub was hit by a car.
"It is quite small, and even if it had been hit by a bicycle, its injuries would have been significantly greater. Generally, in nature, tiger cubs can break their paws, and then the female has to make a choice in favor of healthy offspring. Now the main thing is to splint it and get it accustomed to food because during this period tiger cubs switch from milk to meat. Later the decision will be made where to send it for rehabilitation," the tiger expert explained.
The Amur Tiger Center was established by the Russian Geographical Society on the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The center carries out its activities without budgetary funds with the sponsorship of organizations and individuals. The center supports organizations that protect the Amur tiger, the largest tiger in the world. It is listed in the International Red Book.
