Russia sets sights on creating own orbital station, says chief designer

According to plans, the Russian orbital station will be a key element for the creation of sovereign infrastructure for manned spaceflight, and its deployment is scheduled for 2027

MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. Energia, Russia’s rocket and space corporation, continues to work on the creation of a Russian orbital station, Vladimir Solovyov, chief designer of Russian manned systems, said on Monday.

"We’re not slowing down our work on a Russian orbital station. This year, we will release a conceptual design of the station and we will defend it," he emphasized.

In April 2021, Yury Borisov, who was deputy prime minister back then, said that the International Space Station (ISS) was in rather poor condition and Russia could focus on creating its own orbital station. Currently, its conceptual design stage is underway. According to plans, the Russian orbital station will be a key element for the creation of sovereign infrastructure for manned spaceflight, and its deployment is scheduled for 2027.
