Over the publication of fugitive CIA contractor Edward Snowden’s manifesto for the protection of the truth in the German magazine Spiegel Komsomolskaya Pravda daily reported that Spiegel, which was inspired by the tone of the manifesto, proposed to the German government to grant political asylum to Snowden. According to the daily, he will be able to freely engage in human rights activity in Germany.

Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily noted that in a new letter Mr Snowden has found more concrete words to describe the situation over the tapping of the phones of the heads of states by the security services and to voice his opinion on the events over the scandal with the U.S. National Security Agency. At first he said about “criminal bugging programmes” and increasingly stronger power of security services, which try to avoid public control. Then Snowden named the National Security Agency and the UK Government Communications Headquarters as the most evil-minded criminals, calling, however, to remark that a massive tapping is a global programme, which needs global solutions.

Kommersant daily reported that at the background of these events the signing of an agreement on impermissible mutual spying activity between Germany and the United States may be disrupted. The countries were prepared to conclude an agreement as quickly as possible, probably in the beginning of 2014. The negotiations over the text of the agreement will begin in the next few weeks. The politicians jointly with the law enforcers will work on it, meanwhile, the security services may also conclude a separate agreement. Meanwhile, the reached agreements concern the ban on industrial espionage so far. This was not found out whether Berlin obtained the guarantees from U.S. partners that the U.S. does not bug the German chancellor and will refuse the collection of intelligence information in Germany at all. Meanwhile, the experts warned that Washington may change the position that the country is prepared to sign an important agreement, if Berlin takes active action to invite fugitive CIA contractor Edward Snowden to go to Germany.
