Putin to meet with UN Secretary General in September — Russian UN envoy
"Putin is number six on the list of speakers," Vitaly Churkin said referring to the Russian president's address to the 70th session of the General Assembly
UNITED NATIONS, September 2. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to have a meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon when he makes a working visit to the UN headquarters in New York in September, Russian ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin told reporters on Wednesday.
"We're planning a meeting with the UN Secretary-General and there's understanding this meeting will take place," he said, adding that Putin would take the floor on the first day of a general political discussion at the jubilee 70th session of the General Assembly that will begin on September 28.
"Putin is number six on the list of speakers," Churkin said.
Secretary Ban plans take up the issues causing global concern at this meeting with Putin, the UN press service said earlier.
On August 28, Russia's official portal of legal information published the President's resolution saying he would lead the Russian delegation to the 20th session of the General Assembly.
The jubilee session opens at the UN headquarters on September 15. Its itinerary includes a summit that will be held from September 25 to September 27 where the participating country leaders will endorse a global agenda in the sphere of development after 2015.
The summit will be followed by a general political discussion where more than 150 heads of state and government will make speeches.
In addition to it, Russia holds the UN Security Council's rotating presidency in September.
Putin addressed the General Assembly at the Millennium Summit in 2000, as well as in 2003 and 2005.
