Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson dismissed the Department of State statement on alleged discrepancy between the court ruling and the Minsk accords

MOSCOW, August 27. /TASS/. Moscow believes the US reaction to a sentence passed by a Russian military court on controversial Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov is highly politicized and distorts the Minsk accords, Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesperson told a news briefing on Thursday.

"The trial of Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko by a military tribunal was held in compliance with Russian legislation," she said. "This situation doesn't concern the Foreign Ministry and being a ministry in charge of international relations we don't comment on the rulings of sovereign judiciary institutions."

"We think the international reaction to the court ruling has been exceptionally politicized but I'd like to point out a statement by the Department of State on an alleged discrepancy between the ruling and the Minsk accords," she said.

"Statements of this kind distort provisions of the Minsk accords," Zakharova said. "There is no inventing in such situations, just take the document and read it."

"Neither Sentsov nor Kolchenko is a hostage of an illegally held person liable to amnesty under provisions of the Minsk-2 document and the territorial scope of the Minsk accords doesn't embrace the Republic of Crimea," she said.
