MOSCOW, August 14. /TASS/. Iranian General Qasem Soleimani did not visit Moscow, and Russia told the United States about it, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told TASS on Friday.

"We saw these reports, and they were very surprising for us because we told out American colleagues earlier in the previous week that we do not have such information, that Soleimani did not visit Moscow and that we thought the issue is closed," Ryabkov said.

"This is not the main thing, however. The main thing is that Americans themselves did some things in the past that were not in line with UN Security Council resolutions. Last year, they released four Taliban fighters from Guantanamo who were put on UN sanctions list and handed them over to one of the Middle Eastern countries," the diplomat continued.

"It was a direct violation of the UN Security Council resolution. So, the question on who observes the resolution and how he observes it should better be addressed to Washington," he added.

A number of media said earlier Gen Suleimani, the commander of an elitist regiment of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution whom the UN prohibits to leave the Iranian territory, visited Moscow and held talks with a number of top-rank Russian officials, including President Putin and Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.

The media also alleged that Gen Suleimani had come to Moscow by a scheduled flight.

Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov earlier said that he didn't have information "on whether or not this general really visited Moscow."
