Russia’s ‘stop list’ of undesirable NGOs may be expanded to 20 — reports
The Khodorkovsky Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Eurasia Foundation, the Jamestown Foundation, the Albert Einstein Institution and others will be added to the list, Izvestia newspaper says
MOSCOW, July 9. /TASS/. The patriotic "stop list" of 12 foreign NGOs adopted this week by Russia’s upper house of parliament will soon be expanded to a total of 20 organizations, the Izvestia newspaper reported on Thursday citing a high-ranking Federation Council source.
The Khodorkovsky Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Eurasia Foundation, the Jamestown Foundation, the Albert Einstein Institution and others will be added to the list, according to the newspaper.
The official "stop list" of 12 organizations was unveiled at the meeting of the Federation Council on Wednesday. It will be sent the Prosecutor General’s Office that will carry out checks to find whether these NGOs fall within the purview of Russia’s law on undesirable organizations.
"There won’t be a full stop here. A network of foundations that carry out the policy of the [US] State Department is rather many-tentacled and the list will be expanded," the Federation Council source said.
"We also discussed the Ford and Khodorkovsky Foundations while completing the patriotic stop list, but we have limited it to 12 so far, but in the future these organizations will enter the register of the Justice Ministry," he said.
Now the patriotic "stop list" consists of the Soros Foundation, the National Endowment for Democracy, the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the MacArthur Foundation, the Freedom House, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Education for Democracy Foundation, the East European Democratic Center, the Ukrainian World Congress, the Ukrainian World Coordinating Council and the Crimean Field Mission on Human Rights.
