Aeroflot hopes to receive $110 mln from inheritors of late tycoon Berezovsky
According to the company's director general, Aeroflot had been in legal dispute with Berezovsky for more than 10 years but during his life the company failed to return the money
MOSCOW, June 22. /TASS/. Russia’s flagship carrier Aeroflot hopes to receive $110 mln from the inheritors of tycoon Boris Berezovsky, the company’s general director Vitaly Savelyev said at the annual meeting of shareholders on Monday.
He said that when Berezovsky was alive Aeroflot and the General Prosecutor’s office seized his assets for the sum of about $110 mln. The businessman’s death and the following inheritance issues delayed the dispute.
Savelyev did not say when his company plans to return the money.
"These are bonus-like issue for our (company’s) personal pleasure that is why we are expecting those owners to come upon an inheritance and after that we will resume those proceedings," he said.
Savelyev said that Aeroflot had been in legal dispute with Berezovsky for more than 10 years but during his life the company failed to return the money due to different reasons.
He said that shortly before Berezovsky’s death Aeroflot with the assistance from the General Prosecutor’s office managed to get back $57 mln the businessman siphoned off from the company.
In 1997, Boris Berezovsky entered the Forbes list of billionaires ranking as 104th with the fortune of $3 bln.
He had been on Russia’s wanted list since 1999. In Russia, Berezovsky faced 13 criminal cases.
The 67-year-old businessman was found dead in March 2013 in the bathroom of his house near Ascot, west of London, where he lived at that time. According to official uncorroborated theory, Berezovsky might have committed suicide. He was buried at Brookwood Cemetery in the county of Surrey on May 8, 2013.
