MOSCOW, June 5. /TASS/. The Gorbachev Foundation, founded by the Soviet Union’s first and only President, Mikhail Gorbachev, has no headquarters in the United States and is not receiving money from abroad, the head of the non-profit organization’s press service, Pavel Palazhchenko said on Friday.

"The Foundation has never had and has no headquarters in San Francisco, it does not receive funds from abroad and honors the legislation," Palazhchenko, formerly the chief English interpreter for Gorbachev, told TASS.

Palazhchenko commented on a request by the member of the Civic Chamber, Georgy Fedorov, on conducting a check into the foundation’s compliance with the NGOs - "foreign agents" law.

Media reports said earlier that Fedorov has sent a request to Russia’s Justice Ministry claiming that the Gorbachev Foundation is allegedly "an international non-governmental organization with its headquarters in San Francisco [the United States].".
