Russia mulls possible steps on ECHR ruling in Yukos case — reports
In June, Russia should unveil a plan of fulfilling the ECHR rulings on paying compensation to the former Yukos shareholders
MOSCOW, May 27. /TASS/. Russia does not regard the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) into the Yukos case on compensation to former shareholders of the now-defunct oil giant as an example of a fair and unbiased approach, Russian Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov told Kommersant business daily on Wednesday.
"Russia’s Justice Ministry jointly with other government authorities is currently considering several options of the possible procedural steps in connection with the ECHR ruling," Konovalov told the newspaper in an interview.
"In any case, our further actions will be implemented judging from the need to ensure the sovereign interests of the Russian Federation and based on the fact that the Constitution of the Russian Federation has the highest legal force on the territory of Russia," the minister stressed.
In June, Russia should unveil a plan of fulfilling the ECHR rulings on paying compensation to the former Yukos shareholders.
The ECHR ruled on July 31, 2014 to award over 1.866 billion euros in compensation payments to former shareholders of the company under their complaint filed against Russia.
