Russia restructures space industry electronic components base amid sanctions — deputy PM
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said Western sanctions mainly affected the development and purchase of radiation-resistant components base
MOSCOW, May 19. /TASS/. Russia has to restructure the production of its electronic components base amid western sanctions to fully cover the space industry’s needs, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said on Tuesday.
Rogozin spoke at a plenary session of the State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, where he presented a bill on creating Roscosmos state space corporation.
"The Western sanctions mainly affected the development and purchase of radiation-resistant components base. That is why, we have to restructure the industry on the move in order to fully satisfy the needs of the space industry for microelectronics," the vice-premier said.
Today the accuracy of the GLONASS domestic satellite navigation system is 2.7 meters, Rogozin said. ‘We plan to reach the figure of 60 cm by 2020," he said.
Russia is simultaneously cooperating with China, which is creating its Beidou navigation system, the vice-premier said.
"The main thing for us now is to organize production in Russia to manufacture signal-receiving modules and chipsets that should be developed using our components and could receive signals from GPS, Beidou and Galileo [European satellite-based navigation system] and, of course, GLONASS," the vice-premier sad.
For Russian defense systems, GLONASS remains a priority "so that there can be no surprises in the event of disconnection from some other navigation systems," the vice-premier said.
