"The victory in the Great Patriotic War will stay forever in our hearts, this is a spiritual and moral victory of our people that is passed on from generation to generation," Lavrov said

MOSCOW, May 5. /TASS/. Moscow will continue countering any attempts to make equal the winners and the defeated in WWII, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.

"The victory in the Great Patriotic War will stay forever in our hearts, this is a spiritual and moral victory of our people that is passed on from generation to generation," Lavrov told the ceremony in Moscow for laying flowers at memorial plaques with names of Russian diplomats killed during the 1941-1945 war.

"These days we pay tribute to those who defended our Motherland and sacrificed their lives for the sake of ideals of freedom and justice and made a contribution to the victory in World War II that will remain the Great Patriotic War for us," Lavrov told the veterans ahead of the 70th anniversary of Victory.

The Russian foreign minister stressed that thanks to "the monumental efforts of the Soviet diplomacy, the foundation of the modern world order was laid that is enshrined in the UN Charter and remains essential today."

"That’s why we will further strongly counteract any attempts to rewrite the results of that victory and to place on one plaque the winners and those who tried to enslave Europe and the whole world," he said.
