MOSCOW, March 2. /TASS/. Alexey Navalny - a prominent opposition figure being kept under house arrest as a result of administrative sanctions, has appealed to the Moscow Presnya District court, asking to suspend the house arrest for one day.

Ivan Zhidkov - a lawyer for Alexey Navalny, has confirmed that Navalny’s appeal, in which he asked to lift the administrative arrest so that he could attend the funeral of Boris Nemtsov scheduled for March 3, has been filed at the Presnya district court.

"Russian law permits suspending administrative punishments in the event of death of close relatives or friends of a person under arrest," another lawyer, Vadim Kozev, told TASS. The decision rests with the judge who handled the case of an administrative punishment for Navalny, he added. The judge, Irina Zubova, is to make a decision herself with no other court members present, the lawyer said.

Boris Nemtsov was killed while walking along the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow on Friday. Four bullets hit him in the back and he died on the spot.

He was a co-chair of the RPR-Parnas liberal democratic political party and a deputy of Yaroslavl regional legislature. Nemtsov held a number of Russian government positions in the 1990's.
