Russian lawmaker says West seeks to seal anti-Russian stance
Russia’s lower house of parliament speaker Sergey Naryshkin says more and more people in the EU are aware of what is happening in Ukraine
MOSCOW, January 20. /TASS/. Moscow sees attempts by Western countries to seal their targeted anti-Russian policy, the speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, the State Duma, Sergey Naryshkin said on Tuesday.
“We deal with no just misperceptions, but an attempt to seal the well-targeted anti-Russian political course,” Naryshkin told lawmakers at the opening of the State Duma's spring session.
“For the sake of dangerous illusions and completely strange tasks, the European Union states’ authorities have been sacrificing their own economies over the past several months and telling lies to their own citizens,” he said.
In this context, Western sanctions against Russia, which come in violation of all fundamental principles and rules of the international law, are becoming increasingly immoral, Naryshkin said.
The lawmaker also said it’s no coincidence that calls have been heard in Kiev for a new offensive in Donbas, and the recent tragic events, especially in Donetsk, confirm this.
The self-proclaimed Donetsk republic reported on Monday 56 shelling attacks on residential areas and militia positions in eastern Ukraine launched by Kiev’s security forces over the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, even in the EU countries more and more people are aware of what is happening in Ukraine, Naryshkin stressed.
Despite the sanctions, the State Duma will continue strengthening inter-parliamentarian ties and contacts with sound and responsible political forces abroad and seek dialogue with opponents, he said.
