Speaking about the current problems Russia is facing, the speaker of the Russian Federation Council said she thinks Russia needs a kind of emotional punch to start solving old problems

MOSCOW, December 22 /TASS/. Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of the Russian Federation Council upper chamber of Russian parliament, said on Monday that the outgoing 2014 has strengthened Russians’ patriotic feelings and has revealed Russia’s special global mission. According to her, all the problems and difficulties of the past year were necessary as an emotional punch to start solving problems accumulated in previous years.

“In your speech you gave a good assessment of the outgoing year. I believe that it will go down in history as a landmark year which increased a feeling of patriotism and pride of their country in Russians and made them realize Russia’s special mission and role in contemporary world,” Matviyenko said at President Putin’s meeting with representatives of both chambers of the Russian Federal Assembly (parliament).

She said the outgoing year has been very intensive, and that the Federation Council has exercised its powers in full measure.

Speaking about the current difficult situation, the official said she thinks Russia needs a kind of emotional punch to start solving problems accumulated before the crisis.

She added that those problems include structural reform of the Russian economy; new industrialization and improvement of investment climate.

Matviyenko promised that the Federation Council would do its best to implement the tasks set in Putin’s annual state-of-the-nation address to parliament delivered on December 4 this year.

“I am sure that we are going to get out of this situation more united and consolidated. You were right to say that Russia has a huge factor of endurance and an enormous ability to survive. There are no reasons for panic though some people want and are trying to pile on tensions,” Matviyenko said in conclusion.
