MOSCOW, December 16. /TASS/. A total of 243 militants were killed and 644 more militants and their accomplices were detained in Russia over the year of 2014, Andrey Przhezdomsky, a spokesman for the Russian National Antiterrorism Committee, said on Tuesday.

The spokesman said that a total of 74 counter-terrorism operations were held in 2014 in Russia’s North Caucasus region.

“This year we have managed for the first time to prevent escalation of terrorism activities in the summer time,” Przhezdomsky added.
