“Of course, an approach is still due, but the sense is not to make people simply bring physically their money into the Russian Federation," - prime minister said

MOSCOW, December 13. /TASS/. The purpose of the amnesty of capital is in collecting of taxes on it, not having it return to Russia, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said in an interview with the Vesti on Saturday television programme as he commented on a suggestion from the president to lift responsibility from those who prefer to disclose their capitals in offshore zones.

“Of course, an approach is still due, but the sense is not to make people simply bring physically their money into the Russian Federation. It is not our objective as yet to bring back the money to Russia. We want the money to be declared and to have taxes paid on it,” the prime minister said.

He said it would not be reasonable to expect immediate return of funds in Russia after announcement of the amnesty.

“I agree, the return of money in the Russian territory will depend mainly on the financial and economic situation in this country, on how things stand with the sanctions, on the situation around oil, and generally speaking on the macroeconomic situation in the country.”

The final model for the amnesty is due to be presented in early 2015, Medvedev said.
