MOSCOW, December 12. /TASS/. The Russian agricultural watchdog (Rosselkhoznadzor) has lifted its ban on meat supplies from three Belarusian enterprises, aide to the Rosselkhoznadzor head Alexey Alekseyenko said on Friday.

“Rosselkhoznadzor has lifted the ban on supplies from the Zhlobin and Gomel meat plants and the Vitebsk broiler poultry plant,” he said.

Belarus has provided information on checks at the meat plants and provided guarantees that they have eliminated food safety violations, the aide to the Rosselkhoznadzor head said.

The Russian agricultural watchdog is currently studying proposals from the veterinary service of Belarus on lifting its ban on other Belarusian suppliers, he said.

Russia’s agricultural watchdog banned on November 24-December 9 meat and dairy product supplies from 26 Belarusian enterprises, including 18 plants over food safety violations and 8 plants over the African swine fever genome revealed in their products.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on November 27 in comments on Russia’s ban that Belarus would have to respond to the restrictions on meat and dairy product supplies, if trade between the two countries did not come to normal.

Lukashenko said “the behavior of the Russian authorities [the ban] does not simply surprise but causes grieve.”

Russia and Belarus subsequently agreed a return of four Belarusian meat suppliers to the Russian market, Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy said after bilateral talks in Moscow on December 4.
