MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. Russian-made Kamaz trucks may soon gain the unofficial status of the main workhorse of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) transport service, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday.

Russia will provide a total of 218 Kamaz trucks as its contribution to the UN WFP in 2014 and 2015, Lukashevich said. “The scope of the project is so big Kamaz may well become regarded as the vehicle of choice of the largest humanitarian organization within the UN system,” he added.

The diplomat recalled that on December 16 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is to meet Ertharin Cousin, the WFP executive director, who will be in Moscow on a working visit.

"Russia has been a major donor of the UN WFP for more than ten years now," Lukashevich said.

“We have donated $52.5 million over the past eleven months,” he said, adding that it was the country's largest donation ever. “By the end of the year Russia's contribution to the UN WFP will grow to $66.5 million.”.
