KIEV, December 11 /TASS/. Ukraine’s parliament on Thursday adopted a draft of an appeal to Russian leaders urging them to release Ukrainian helicopter flight navigator Nadezhda Savchenko suspected of complicity to the death of two Russian journalists near eastern Ukraine's Luhansk in June this year.

Savchenko, a deputy of the newly-elected Ukrainian parliament, will represent the entire Ukrainian parliament without quotas at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). She will also be a member of Ukraine’s permanent delegation at PACE, the document said.

Savchenko was detained in the territory of Russia and was taken into custody in the city of Voronezh in the summer of 2014. She is now staying in Moscow where she was escorted for a psychiatric examination.

On October 27, Moscow’s Basmannyi Court extended Savchenko’s arrest for 3.5 months till February 13, 2015.

During the military hostilities near Luhansk in June this year, Savchenko, a Mi-24 helicopter flight navigator, joined Ukraine’s volunteer Aidar battalion. According to Russian investigators, she calculated the location of two Russian journalists, Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, and handed over the coordinates to mortar gunners who killed the journalists.

Savchenko won a seat at Verkhovnaya Rada in the October 26 parliamentary elections in Ukraine from the Batkivshchyna party. Her name topped the party’s electoral list.
