MIG-29 fighter jet crashes in Moscow region, pilots manage to catapult

The crew was returning to the airbase in Ramenskoye when something happened and the pilots were compelled to abandon the jet, the Director General of the Mikhail Gromov Flight Testing Institute said

MOSCOW, December 4. /TASS/. A MIG-29 fighter jet has crushed in the area of the town of Voskresensk, about 100 km to the south-east of Moscow, the press service of the regional Interior Department told TASS.

Both pilots catapulted. No victims on the ground were reported.

“The jet crashed near the village of Chemodurovo,” a spokesman for the department said. “Both pilots catapulted and one of them was taken to hospital.”

Pavel Vlassov, the Director General of the Mikhail Gromov Flight Testing Institute said the jet had crashed during a test flight.

When the crew was returning to the institute’s airbase in Ramenskoye, “something happened and the pilots were compelled to abandon the jet.”

Vlassov also said that the aircraft itself was beyond repair.
