MOSCOW, December 3. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday banned the supplies, sale and transfer to Ivory Coast from the Russian territory and by Russian citizens of weapons and any related lethal materials.

The ban has been imposed in connection with the adoption of the UN Security Council resolution of April 29, 2014, in view of a political crisis that broke out in the West African country.

The ban at the same time does not apply to the supplies exclusively for the support of the UN operation in Ivory Coast and French forces participating in this operation, as well as to transit supplies for supporting UN operations.

The political crisis in the West African country broke out in 2011 due to uncertainty with the presidential election results. Both candidates that qualified for the second round declared themselves the winners and took the oath. The armed forces sided with incumbent President Laurent Bgagbo, and the international community - with the opposition leader Alassane Ouattara. With interference of the UN peacekeeping contingent the power was transferred to the opposition. Since November 2010 to March 31, 2011, the conflict claimed more than 1,000 lives and about 1 million people were displaced.

At present, the UN forces are performing a peacekeeping mission in the country.
