Russia blocks Vimeo video hosting access for Islamic State video

Vimeo is a New York-based free video hosting with over 100 million unique visitors monthly as of December 2013

MOSCOW, December 1. /TASS/. At the request from Russian telecommunications watchdog communications providers have blocked access to Vimeo video hosting which posted a video of extremist grouping Islamic State. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has blocked the video hosting access, the supervising agency said on its official Facebook page.

“Communications service providers have banned the access to video hosting Vimeo at the request by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office. The website address which contained a video of terrorist organization Islamic State was put on a register of banned information,” the watchdog stated.

Vimeo is a New York-based free video hosting set up in 2004. More than 100 million unique visitors have entered the Internet resource monthly as of December 2013 and more than 22 million were registered on the website.
