Russian State Duma hopes for constructive dialogue with Moldovan parliament

The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, led by Igor Dodon, which supports Eurasian integration, is leading in the country’s parliamentary elections held Sunday with 21% of votes

MOSCOW, December 1. /TASS/. Russia’s State Duma (lower house) respects the Moldovan people’s choice, a Russian lawmaker said on Monday.

“We respect the Moldovan people’s choice and hope to continue constructive cooperation with the Moldovan parliament in any configuration,” chairman of the Duma Committee for the CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Leonid Slutsky said.

The fact that the Party of Socialists is leading the elections proves “the majority of Moldovan electors come in favour of Eurasian integration”, he said.

The parliamentary elections were held in Moldova on November 30.

The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, led by Igor Dodon, which supports Eurasian integration, is leading in the country’s parliamentary elections held Sunday with 21% of votes after 86% of election protocols have been counted, the Moldovan Central Election Commission said.

The Communist Party led by Moldovan former president Vladimir Voronin comes third with 17% If there are no cardinal changes, this will allow the Communists and the Party of Socialists to get 22 and 25 mandates in the 101-seat parliament.

The Liberal Democratic Party led by ex-premier Vlad Filat has received 19% of votes. The Democratic Party led by Marian Lupu has 15%, and the Liberal Party headed by supporter of unification with Romania and Moldova’s accession to NATO Mihai Ghimpu has 9%

The other parties are not passing the 6% electoral threshold.
