MOSCOW, November 19. /TASS/. Claims by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Ukraine’s preparedness for a total war are an instance of nonsense and political bluffing, Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of the upper house of Russian parliament said on Wednesday.

“It’s simply impossible to comment on such statements because they are nonsensical and irresponsible and are sheer political bluff, the kind a diligent and truly independent head of state will never venture to make,” she said.

Matviyenko said Russia’s position on settling the crisis in Ukraine is clear-cut and it hasn't not changed.

“We’re trying to convince the Ukrainian authorities in every possible way that it is time to engage in negotiations,” she said. “Minsk accords should be fulfilled and a constitutional reform embracing all the political forces in all the regions of Ukraine should be implemented.”

Matviyenko said it was highly desirable for the Ukrainian President to stop verbal rattling and to get down to tackling the real problems of his country and people.

Poroshenko earlier said in an interview with the German Bild daily he is not afraid of war with Russia.

He alleged that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are better prepared now and Ukraine supposedly enjoys support of the whole world.

"We are prepared for a scenario of total war,” he claimed. “We don't want war, we want peace and we are fighting for European values.”

Poroshenko used the interview as a yet another opportunity to blame Russia, saying it does not respect any agreement.
