Russian official suggests creating council of governors with China

The initiative fully meets the principle of good neighbourly horizontal relations and build-up of international regional ties

CHITA, November 7. /TASS/. Head of Trans-Baikal Territory Konstantin Ilkovsky suggested creating a Russian-Chinese council of governors during his visit to Chinese city of Harbin, the territorial government’s press service reported on Friday.

Most foreign economic issues affect interests of right several regions in Russia and China, Ilkovsky said, noting that these are infrastructure issues, major regional investment projects, development of business ties in the business community and improvement of domestic legislations in cross-border co-operation.

“Amid new conditions of Asian integration effort pooled by regions will promote the use of resources of the whole macro-region that will allow formulating even more ambitious goals,” the Trans-Baikal territorial head said.

Chief executives from Trans-Baikal, Khabarovsk and Primorsky territories, Irkutsk, Amur regions and Jewish autonomous region, the Republic of Buryatia would be able to join an international council of governors from Russia, Ilkovsky said. Heads of Heilongjiang Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region are offered to represent China in the council.

Heilongjiang Governor Lu Hao noted that representatives of regional business circles also should participate in meetings of leaders of border territories.
