Russian regulator advises against trips abroad over Ebola threat
A Russian national going abroad can be infected with any disease, but can be regarded as an exposed person or can be placed in quarantine, head of Russia’s consumer rights agency said
MOSCOW, November 6. /TASS/. The head of Russia’s consumer rights agency Rospotrebnadzor said on Thursday Russian nationals should limit travels abroad over a continuing threat from Ebola.
“Each country of the world may impose in line with international medical and sanitary rules restrictions, which it considers adequate to protect its population,” the agency's head, Anna Popova, said after a joint session of Rospotrebnadzor and the Rosturizm Federal Agency for Tourism.
“With that in view, a Russian national going abroad can be infected with any disease, but can be regarded as an exposed person or can be placed in quarantine,” she told reporters.
“In this situation, a person is stripped of an adequate holiday and will have to spend 21 days, if we are speaking about Ebola, in conditions that he did not expect,” Popova explained.
The agency’s head told reporters that at the moment the World Health Organization put the number of Ebola cases in the world at 13,042.
She said the joint session had focused on measures to provide exhaustive information to those who apply for tourism services about possible threats from Ebola virus, as well as Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever and chikugunya disease.
