Russian humanitarian aid distributed to over 400,000 citizens of Luhansk republic
In total, 3,500 tons of humanitarian cargo has been taken to the storages in the self-proclaimed republic
LUhANSK, October 25. /TASS/. More than 400,000 citizens of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) have received humanitarian aid from Russia, the LPR humanitarian service said on Saturday.
In total, 3,500 tons of humanitarian cargo has been taken to the storages in the republic, which was later transferred to local distribution points. Some 35 such facilities are currently operating in Lugansk and another 65 across the region.
The social aid was distributed to the citizens in two stages. During the first stage, which took place between August 25 and September 3, some 163,000 people received humanitarian packages. Another 256,000 people were given aid between September 4 and September 23.
Some 600 volunteers helped to make the lists of those receiving humanitarian aid, repacked food and medical supplies, and later distributed the packages, mainly to the elderly and poor people.
The humanitarian service in the republic said another batch of humanitarian aid, which will include warm winter clothes, is expected to be supplied to the citizens of Donbass in the near future.
In late September, the third humanitarian aid convoy returned to Russia after at least 200 KAMAZ trucks had delivered 2,000 tons of foodstuffs (including cereal and canned products), electric generating units, medications, warm clothing and bottled drinking water to war-torn Donbass.
The first two convoys with Russian humanitarian aid for Ukraine’s southeast brought a total of 4,000 tons of cargo to the embattled city of Luhansk. In early October, the Russian authorities announced plans to dispatch the fourth humanitarian aid convoy, without specifying the date.
