Japanese torpedo destroyer to visit Russia's Far East for joint drills with Pacific Fleet
Joint Russian-Japanese SAREX drills are to take place October 28
MOSCOW,October 24. /TASS/. Japan's Hamagiri torpedo destroyer (JS Hamagiri DD-155, Asagiri class destroyer) will arrive in Russian far-eastern Vladivostok on October 25. While on visit, it will take part in joint drills with Russia's Pacific Fleet ships, official representative of the fleet, captain Roman Martov told TASS.
«The visit will focus on the development of cooperation between our Naval Forces and conduction of joint Russian-Japanese search and rescue exercises on the sea (SAREX), which will be held in the Peter the Great Bay on October 28”, he said.
“The Admiral Panteleyev anti-submarine ship, the Ilim tanker, a sea-going tug and Pacific Ocean Fleet Air Force will participate in the exercises on Russia's part”.
According to Martov, the Hamagiri destroyer will be in Vladivistok for five days. During this time, Japanese seamen will meet with the Pacific Ocean Fleet command, make an official visit to the Head of the city administration, place wreaths to the eternal light of the Monument Complex of the “Pacific Fleet Battle Honors”, arrange the visit of the ship for residents and guests of the city, and will participate in sporting events. Besides, the Japanese delegation will go to Naval Cemetery to lay flowers to compatriots' tombs.
