At the ASEM summit in Milan on October 16-17 Russian President Vladimir Putin may have meetings with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told the media on Thursday.

“Next week the Russian president will go to Italy for the Asia-Europe Meeting at the summit level. There are plans for meetings with Western partners. The Ukrainian theme will be in focus,” Ushakov said.

The Kremlin staff is currently working on this and considering likely contacts.

“A meeting in the Normandy format - Putin, Merkel, Hollande and Poroshenko - is not ruled out,” Ushakov said.

The ASEM summit in Milan will gather the leaders of Germany, France, Britain and European Commission officials. Ushakov said that at this point he was unable to name all foreign leaders Putin would meet with. A rendezvous with Italy’s new prime minister is possible, Ushakov said.
