ARKHANGELSK, October 7. /TASS/. Borei-class 4th generation nuclear-powered submarine Vladimir Monomakh has completed extensive acoustic trials returning from a voyage, the press service of military shipyard Sevmash in Russian northern city of Severodvinsk where the nuclear submarine had been built told TASS on Tuesday.

The submarine cruiser has fulfilled successfully all tasks and specialists have gathered all required data which will be processed at Krylov state scientific center, Russia’s main ship research and design company. “So, the submarine has finalized a program of state trials, extensive acoustic trials and now will be prepared for handover to the Navy,” the military shipyard’s press service said.

Vladimir Monomakh is a third Borei-class submarine, the Sevmash press service said. “So, all submarines under the project are built. Now the shipyard is building nuclear submarines of the modernized project of Borei-A class,” the shipyard added.

Vladimir Monomakh belongs to the class of strategic missile-carrying submarine cruisers. It was laid at Sevmash on March 19, 2006, on the day when the centenary of Russian submarine fleet was celebrated and was set afloat on December 30, 2012. The submarine has been on sea trials since 2013.

Project 955 Borei-class lead missile carrier Yuriy Dolgoruky and first nuclear ballistic missile submarine Alexander Nevsky of this project also built at Sevmash were handed over to Russian Navy at the beginning and the end of 2013, respectively. Submarines Knyaz (prince) Vladimir and Knyaz Oleg were laid at the shipyard under modernized project 955A in 2012 and 2014, respectively.

Borei-class submarines armed with new intercontinental ballistic missiles Bulava should become backbones of Russian naval strategic nuclear forces for next few decades. Eight Borei-class submarines are planned to build before 2020, including three of them under project 955 armed with 16 intercontinental ballistic missiles and five of them in project 955A provided with 20 intercontinental ballistic missiles.
