Russian FM: war on memory is incompatible with principles of civilized society
MOSCOW, October 2 /TASS/. A war on the memory of people who gave their lives for the freedom of Poland is incompatible with the principles of a civilized community, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday in comments on the recent facts of desecration of Soviet WWII memorials in the Polish cities of Pruszcz-Gdanski and Novy Soncz.
“We regret to state it once again that acts of vandalism against memorials to Soviet soldiers who liberated that country /Poland/ from fascist occupiers during WWII continue taking place in Poland. We believe that a war on memorials let alone on the people who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the Polish people is incompatible with the basic principles of a civilized community,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its official website on Thursday.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has urged the Polish side to observe the Russian-Polish inter-governmental agreement on war cemeteries and memorials to the victims of wars and repressions singed on February 22, 1994 and take measures to search for the vandals and curb and prevent such cases of vandalism in future.
