Russia condemns terrorist act in Syria, urges to resume political peace process
Over 100 people were wounded and more than 40 died as a result of a double terrorist attack in Syria's Homs
MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. Moscow condemns the double terrorist attack staged in the Syrian city of Homs where more than 40 children were killed, and urges to resume Syrian political peace process launched in Geneva, Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
“According to Syrian media, a double terrorist act was staged in a district where the Alawites live in the city of Homs,” the diplomatic agency said, adding that “After the end of lessons when students were leaving their classrooms, a car stuffed with explosives was blown up near a school. A suicide bomber blasted himself at another school several minutes later.” “A horribly cruel terrorist act has wounded more than 100 and has killed more than 40 children aged under 12,” the ministry said, offering condolences to relatives and loved ones of the victims wishing soonest recovery to those wounded.
“We are convinced that attaining real victory over terrorists in Syria will be possible not through air strikes by the United States and its allies without the UN Security Council’s resolution or consent from Syria’s legal authorities, but through joint efforts by all states on an internationally recognized legal basis,” the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement runs. “And a final settlement of the internal armed conflict in that country can be achieved by means of intra-Syrian national reconciliation and a political settlement.”
“In this regard, we appeal to all forces having influence on developments in Syria to take a clear-cut and unambiguous position to attain such settlement through inclusive intra-Syrian dialogue and to resume political peace process launched in Geneva,” Russian diplomatic agency said in its statement.
