Putin hopes parliamentary election brings political stability to Ukraine
This is the only way for Ukraine to preserve its territorial integrity and become united again, Russian President Vladimir Putin says
MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said he hopes Ukraine's parliamentary election due on October 26 will help bring political stability to the war-torn country.
“I hope that the election to the Ukrainian parliament will be held in a decent way, and finally, a long-awaited political stabilization will come,” Putin told the sixth VTB Capital’s annual investment forum Russia Calling!
Putin warned Ukraine against discrimination on language, ethnic and religious grounds during the election. “We believe that all people living in any part of Ukraine will enjoy full rights envisaged by the norms of international law and the Ukrainian legislation,” the Russian leader said.
The Russian president said this is the only way for Ukraine to preserve its territorial integrity and become united again, as well as to ensure the development in economic and social spheres. “We hope very much for this and we will make every effort to promote this,” Putin said.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko dissolved Ukraine's parliament in late August in a move to clean the parliament from the allies of his predecessor Viktor Yanukovych and scheduled a snap parliamentary election for October 26.
Last week, the Supreme Council of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) scheduled the local elections of the head and parliament for November 2. The vote is expected to be held simultaneously with the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR).
President Poroshenko said Kiev is not planning to acknowledge the elections on the territory of the self-proclaimed republics.
