Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko have discussed possible contacts in person during their telephone conversations

MOSCOW, September 26. /ITAR-TASS/. A possible meeting of Russian and Ukrainian presidents Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko either in bilateral or international format has been discussed, though without any time references, aide to the Russian president, Yuri Ushakov told reporters on Friday.

Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko have discussed possible contacts in person during their telephone conversations, he said.

“As for [the issue of a meeting with Ukraine’s president], during the telephone conversations our president and Mr Poroshenko have been discussing a possible contact in person either in a bilateral or international format, though exact timing has not been discussed yet,” the presidential aide said.

Thus, he said, possible meetings are not ruled out. The presidential aide said Putin had already met with Poroshenko. “Now, the topic is being discussed, but without any exact timing,” he repeated.

The aide said the international format he mentioned could be, for example, the “Norman” format featuring also Germany’s chancellor and France’s president.

On Thursday, Poroshenko said the countries had been working on a meeting of the leaders, which is due within several weeks.
