MOSCOW, September 26. /ITAR-TASS/. The resolution on countering the threats, emanating from foreign terrorists-militants, adopted by the UN Security Council, reflects Russia’s main approaches to combating this menace, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

“Russia has put forward the initiative to hold under the UN aegis an international forum with the participation of countries of the Middle East and North Africa region, the African Union, League of Arab States, the UN Security Council five permanent members and other parties concerned to comprehensively consider the problem of terrorism in these regions in all its manifestations,” the ministry said. “Putting the issue of foreign terrorists-militants on the long-term UN Security Council agenda meets Russia’s interest and the principle course towards securing the UN coordinating role in the fight against international terrorism.”

On September 24, an open high-level meeting of the UN Security Council was held in New York. The adopted resolution is aimed at the fight against terrorism and prevention of threats from foreign terrorists-militants, first of all the militants fighting under the flag of the Islamic State and Al-Nusra groups that have strengthened their positions. The resolution is also aimed against the recruitment, training of such persons and their financing, prevention of foreign terrorists-militants’ movement to the armed conflict areas. The tasks of countering the threats emanating from foreign terrorist militants are linked with the requirements to fight the spread of violent extremism, including through the Internet and social media.
