Azerbaijani, Moscow governments sign memorandum on cooperation

Azerbaijani First Vice-Premier Yagub Eiyubov and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on Thursday signed a memorandum on mutual understanding and cooperation.

A package of 48 documents was also signed between concrete companies on supplies of Azerbaijani products to Moscow.

Eiyubov said the Azerbaijani and Moscow government had big tasks and it was necessary to work out a mechanism to carry out them.

Commenting on the West’s sanctions against Russia, he said, “Nothing will come of it. Russia is Russia, on the contrary it will be stronger.”

Eiyubov said he was satisfied with the level of trade relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.

Sobyanin said over recent years trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Moscow had grown threefold.

However, the potential of Moscow markets “allows us to increase it by 30 times, and by 300 times, taking into account the competitiveness of the Moscow markets and Azerbaijani products”, he said.

Sobyanin said his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilkham Aliyev focused on possibilities to improve the existing agreement with Moscow. In addition to cooperation in the agro-industrial complex, the agreement will envision such spheres as the metro construction, city infrastructure improvement, healthcare, education, culture and others.
