MOSCOW, September 25. /ITAR-TASS/. At the final stage of the Vostok-2014 strategic command post exercise, an aviation grouping of the Eastern Military District on Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula destroyed an airlifted force of the hypothetical aggressor, the Russian Defense Ministry reported Thursday.

“The aviation strike grouping comprising five Su-24 frontline bombers, eight Mi-24 attack helicopters and 12 Mi-8 AMTSh multipurpose helicopters received a task, promptly flew to the designated area, overcame counteraction of sea-based air defense means of the hypothetical aggressor and delivered a missile and bombing strike, destroying ground targets simulating personnel and military hardware,” the ministry said.

The Vostok-2014 maneuvers started September 19 and will last until September 25. They take place at 20 overland, sea and aviation ranges from Anadyr to Vladivostok.

The exercises are not the first large-scale operability test for Russia’s armed forces. Since the year start, the Western, Central and Eastern military districts have been inspected, including with the conducting of large-scale military exercises and the use of state-of-the-art serial equipment.
