MOSCOW, September 24. /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry says Moscow disappointed with new Tokyo sanctions, and it regards this unfriendly move as inability to pursue independent foreign policy.

Tokyo damages its geopolitical positions with anti-Russian sanctions taken under external pressure and sends wrong signal to its business, the ministry added.

Japan's new sanctions against Russia are illegitimate, the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed. The ministry said that unilateral sanctions "never reach their goal and only increase tensions in international relations".

The ministry said Japan's decision to impose new sanctions looked illogical given the recent agreements on a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine reached by the Contact Group in Minsk.
