DUSHANBE, September 12. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin will meet with Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani in Dushanbe on Friday. Russia’s presidential aide Yury Ushakov does not rule out that the leaders of the two countries will discuss the most sensitive issues, including, possibly, the military-technical cooperation.

Putin is now in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, where he participates in a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The leaders of Russia and Iran will meet for the second time this year, the Russian presidential aide said. The two leaders have had three telephone conversations, he added.

The key topic of the bilateral meeting will be development of trade and economic relations. The Russian-Iranian trade turnover is currently declining, including due to the unilateral sanctions certain countries have introduced against Iran. In 2013, the trade between Russia and Iran dropped by 31.5% to $1.6 billion (in 2012 it was $2.3 billion). In the first half of 2014, the trade decreased by another 16.6%.

The aide said Putin and Rouhani will discuss “the most important aspects of cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.” In September, 2013 the first energy block of the Bushehr nuclear power plant went operational.

Another promising direction of bilateral cooperation is Russian supplies of oil, gas and energy equipment to Iran.

During the upcoming meeting, the presidents will also discuss the international situation, including negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program, the situation in Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq, as well as the settlement of the situation in the Middle East.
