Duma speaker reproaches western media for biased Ukraine coverage

MOSCOW, September 11. /ITAR-TASS/. The leader of Russia's parliamentary lower house renewed his reproach of western media on Thursday for one-sided coverage of events in Ukraine.

“Most western media outlets are covering the current grave crisis in Ukraine rather tendentiously, hushing up facts of human rights violations and, putting it baldly, crimes of the Kiev authorities against their own people,” State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin told a meeting with parliamentarians from the French National Assembly in Moscow.

Such meetings were important to bring to European society Russia’s stance on pressing issues, including the tragic events in Ukraine, he said.

“We highly appreciate it that in the present conditions when the degree of tension in Europe is rather high, you maintain a constructive and balanced approach and independence in judgement demonstrating readiness to continue dialogue and develop inter-parliamentary co-operation,” he told the visitors.

Thierry Mariani, co-chairman of the French-Russian Dialogue business association, said “We are interested in working together in the dramatic conditions we are seeing in the world, in Ukraine and in the Middle East.
